Where are the black designers?
Celebrating black designers
Where Are the Black Designers is an independent project I created to explore and address racial disparity within the field of graphic design—particularly its history and ongoing lack of representation. The project highlights influential Black designers and pioneers, both past and present, whose contributions have shaped the visual landscape yet are too often overlooked.
My goal with this series is to encourage broader visibility and understanding within the design community and to promote design as a field open to everyone. While diversity and inclusion have gained more recognition today, there are still communities across the country where the arts are undervalued or viewed as unattainable career paths. Through this project, I aim to challenge that perception.
Looking towards the future
As I continue to learn and expand my research, I plan to grow this series to include additional profiles and informative assets. In the future, I hope to bring design and self-expression opportunities to lower-income neighborhoods, using art and graphic design as tools for empowerment, awareness, and creative exploration.
